So how about those Olympic games? I personally love watching them and have tremendous admiration for the athletes. Whether it's the speed and excitement of downhill skiing, the grace and beauty of figure skating, or the daredevil runs of snowboarding, the Olympic games are a time-honored tradition offering something for everyone. I'm always amazed with the stories behind the athletes. Many of them have truly faced some tremendous hardships. What great inspirational life-lessons we can learn from these dedicated men and women.

-The Olympics started in greece and the first "event" was 500-meeter speed skating
-The 30th aniversity of the "merical on ice".

You are correct about the origin of the games being Greece. However, speed skating is not correct first event. I'll give you a small hint: the original games were summer based. Try a Google search for some answers.
It is the 30th anniversary of what is now known as the "Miracle on Ice." Do you know what the miracle was???? Not trying to make myself sound older than I am, but this "miracle" was a HUGE deal. I completely remember it and how amazing it was. Like you said, the Olympics bring the world together, and this miracle helped boost the spirits of our country.
